It’s hard to believe it’s been 25 years. On one hand it feels like a lifetime ago. On the other hand, I remember the details of that horrific day like it was yesterday. Resharing my 9/11 story today on this 25th anniversary.
I worked in NYC on 9/11 and went through the World Trade Center every morning to get to work. Those of you who know me in real life know that I’m never 15 minutes early anywhere but on 9/11, I went to work 15 minutes early and it saved my life. The weeks and months that followed were rough. I remember returning to the city about a week after the attacks to collect my things (our offices relocated to NJ for a while) and downtown looked like a war zone. Ashes and debris everywhere, the national guard on every corner and something I had never previously experienced before – the scent of death. It was so unbelievably disturbing and so haunting.
That time in my life marked the beginning of the end of the world as I knew it. The trauma of 9/11 had a profound impact on me as it did on so many others. Less than a year later, as I started to resurface from the distress and horrors of 9/11, my mom (who was otherwise healthy throughout my life) was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer and passed away 6 months later. For me, today not only marks the 25 year anniversary of 9/11 but it’s also the beginning of a series of 25 year milestones approaching that take me back to the feeling of complete brokenness that followed these back-to-back events.
Since then, I have experienced great happiness but have also encountered more soul-crushing challenges and tragic losses – enough to break anyone’s spirit. But I’ve learned this is all part of our human experience. Everyone has struggles and it’s not for anyone to determine what’s better or worse. The struggle is real! If you’re in midlife, midsize and petite, you know how hard it is to find jeans that are comfortable, flattering and fit well. I’ve tried hundreds of pairs of jeans over the years and I only recommend a small fraction of them because most of the time they don’t fit or look awful on my frame. If they don’t work for me or I don’t love them, I won’t share them here. So when you see me sharing jeans, they’re really good! I recently received these mini bootcut jeans from @nydj and I loved them the minute I put them on. So stretchy and comfy and accommodate my curves so well! They hold in that midlife belly but aren’t uncomfortable in any way. I love that they come in both regular and petite sizes so you can get just the right fit. And the ankle style is perfect for summer looks and will transition really well into fall. Cute with sneakers, sandals, flats or heels and I love the color of this wash too! The best designer jeans in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale that no one is talking about! They’re so good and so flattering, especially on an over 50 midsize petite body. So soft and stretchy and so comfortable! Available in both regular and petite sizes. This dark wash is beautiful for year-round everyday outfits and great for business casual workwear outfits if you can wear jeans to work.
I also ended up loving this pretty top so much more than I thought I would! The colors, print, ruffles and all of the feminine details make it such a special piece! And it’s great for transitioning to fall in warm weather places like Florida since it’s lightweight and airy!

I’m usually not a huge fan of wearing shorts because they never really fit right but I’m obsessed with this pair! Who knew ignoring the number on the tag and sizing up would feel so good?!
